My Walking World by David Preston

Gradbach, The Roaches and Danebridge- 05/10/03 - Weather sunny with a cold wind

I was accompanied by my friend Dave Whalley and the walk started from the car park near Gradbach Youth Hostel, we walked up through Gradbach wood and up on to the Roaches, as we left the wood we saw a magnificent stag moving through the heather, we saw him and many others throughout the day, the first time I had seen any in 15 years walking in this area. We walked to the far end of the ridge overlooking Hen Cloud and then returned along the ridge past the Hanging stone and down into Danebridge and up to the Ship Inn at Wincle for refreshments, it was then back along the Dane valley to the car - Distance - 11 miles

There's a deer in there somewhere The view to the North from the Roaches Myself at the trig point

Some of the unusual rock formations A small tarn on the top of the Roaches Climbers on the Roaches- There must have been 50 or 60

There were plenty of walkers out on the ridge Llamas in a field  in the Dane Valley
