This
walk was from the Nuttalls Guidebook The Mountains of England and
Wales Volume 1 -Wales and climbed7 summits- due to lack of time I had
to miss the two summits at the end of the ridge. The ones climbed were
Pen y Allt Uchaf- Gwaun Lydan - AranFawddwy - Gwaun y Llwyni - Waun
Camddwr - the two left for another day were Erw y Ddafad-ddu - Aran
Benllyn, the walk took me around 6 hours and the weather was glorious,
in fact it was probably too hot but after months of poor weather it
was very welcome
Looking up the
valley from the car park, my first impression was, this looks
interesting
The view from the
slopes of Pen y Allt Uchaf looking across to the lovely side valley
containing some very interesting waterfalls
Looking back down
the track to the car park
One of the areas
that have been cut for hay, with the old tractor parked at the bottom,
it had twin wheels on one side for stability although I am not sure
how he managed to turn the tractor across the slope at the top. It was
very steep- sooner him than me. But very interesting to see the
difficult conditions that our hill farmers have to contend with
Another view back
down the valley
The patches on the
steep hillside are areas that have been cut for hay in the past
The memorial to
Mike Aspain on the summit of Drysgol. Tragically this young man
serving in the RAF Mountain Rescue Team was struck by lightning while
on duty on 5th June 1960. A long time ago but it was very moving to
stand there with this magnificent view and read this.
Looking along the
ridge to the two peaks that I had to leave to another day
Looking down on
Creiglyn Dyfi from the summit of Aran Fawddwy
