Walking Log

This weekends walk was an opportunity to walk in the Lakes and spend the night camping and then then walk back to the start point the following day, I got the idea for the walk from the Nuttalls book "Walking Round the Lakes which details a walk around the Lakes covering around 145 miles, each days walk is divided into a high level route and also a low level route as an alternative. I chose the high level route from Portinscale near Keswick which followed Coledale Beck up onto Coledale Hause, the weather was superb and I then climbed Grasmoor followed by Wandhope and Whiteless Pike, then it was down to Buttermere to camp at Sykes Farm. A good evening meal in the Bridge Hotel with a few pints. I woke next morning to the sound of rain which persisted for several hours.  I set off for the return journey around 0915hrs using the low level route back to the start point. I headed up the path from Buttermere along Sail Beck with occasional showers causing me to keep donning my waterproofs, it was then over the pass and down alongside Rigg Beck towards the foot of Catbells, I then followed the path through Overside Wood to Portinscale. The total distance for the two days was around 20 miles and it was good to be walking and carrying all your gear, if you have forgotten anything its tough luck.
