MY WALKING WORLD David Preston

Cnicht and the Moelwyns 18/04/04

A circular walk from the village of Croesor not far from Portmadoc, the peaks climbed today were Cnicht 2260ft, Cnicht North Top 2251ft, Moel-yr hydd 2126ft, Moelwyn Mawr North Ridge Top 2119ft, Moelwyn Mawr 2526ft, Craigysgafn 2260ft and Moelwyn Bach 2329ft. - The guidebook stated 9.5 miles but I clocked up 11.5 miles on my GPS, I tend to believe the GPS as it felt like 11.5 miles. The altimeter seemed incredibly accurate, on Cnicht it registered correctly to within 3 feet. - The weather was sunny with frequent showers of rain, hail and snow. A superb walk with many ruined quarry buildings to explore

Heading up the track towards Cnicht

Looking across the valley to Moelwyn Mawr where I hope to be later in the day

Nearly up to the top - the track goes round the left shoulder of Cnicht

Looking along the ridge to Cnicht North Top

Llyn yr Adar - The track turns left when you get to the lake

Getting closer to Moelwyn Mawr

Looking back at Craigysgafn with Moelwyn Mawr behind, There is a slight dusting of snow from one of the recent showers

Last look back - I was up there an hour ago

One of the locals - a friendly dog that came to wish me farewell
