MY WALKING WORLD

On Remembrance Day each year a service is held on the summit of Great Gable to remember the ones who gave their lives during the world wars. These are some of the photos that I took on Sunday 13/11/05. The weather was cold but sunny with clear skies and magnificent views. Around a thousand people climbed to the summit for the service. I started the walk from Seathwaite and headed up alongside Sourmilk Gill then across the fells by Base Brown and over Green Gable down into Windy Gap and then up onto Great Gable. After the service I walked down to Styhead Tarn and then back down to Seathwaite. A superb day  in glorious weather, I just hope the weather is as good next year.
The lane down to Seathwaite packed with cars. Someone told me later that they arrived late and could not find a parking space so they had to turn round and go back to Seatoller to park. As they walked back they counted 130 cars, if each held an average of two walkers that would be a minimum of 260 walkers from this area alone, assuming there are 4 ways up the mountain that would be around a thousand walkers on the summit. Not all would arrive in time for the service at 1100hrs
