MACCLESFIELD my Home Town |
||
I have lived in Macclesfield since 1963, one of the many advantages of living here is that we are surrounded by glorious countryside, no matter which way you leave the town, whether North, South, East or West, you always have to travel through the rural areas.The journey East towards Buxton is magnificent, the A523 climbs out of Macclesfield up onto spectacular landscape of rolling hills and moorlands. Macclesfield has a long history and has been a Charter Town since about 1261. One of the main industries for the last few hundred years has been the weaving of Silk. Hence the nickname 'Silk Town'. There are many old mills around the town although sadly they are no longer engaged in the Silk industry Shown below are a few photos of the Town and the surrounding area |
