| 09/04/06 - I had been looking
forward to this walk for a while, 5 summits ,11 miles and 4400ft of
ascent. Quite tough but within my capabilites. How wrong I was, I parked at
the end of the lane at Maes-y-garnedd and paid the farmer his fee of
£1.00 to park. Very reasonable. There was no obvious path so it was a
case of climbing up onto the ridge and then ascending up onto the summit
of Rhinog Fawr. One and a half hours later I was on the top, Then it was
down the side of Rhinog Fawr to the Col and up the other side to the
summit of Rhinog Fach. the whole area was pathless and it took me 3
hours to reach the summit, at this point I decided to cut the walk short
and head back to the car. The other summits will have to wait for
another day. It was a gruelling walk and I am sure that I will have to
go back just to see if I can do the walk any easier. Rhinog Fawr
and Rhinog Fach were the only summits climbed today |

Looking for the way down to Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy the cleft appeared to be the
only way and looked quite formidable. I ventured slowly down and it was not
to bad once I went over the rim |

Looking back up at the cleft on Rhinog Fawr, five minutes after this a
snowstorm swept in and it was all waterproofs on as I reached the bottom of
the pass before starting up the side of Rhinog Fach |

|
| Me on the summit of Rhinog Fach, the
snowstorm had finished and it was bright sunshine again. The climb up to
summit was exhausting and I could find no path. it was a tough climb upwards
through heather and boulders. 4½ hours to get here and I was
feeling weary |

Another view of Rhinog Fach, the knee deep heather was exhausting to walk
through with deep ankle twisting holes, boulders and boggy ground everywhere |
